Brick Oven Bakery Website Redesign

Location: Northfield, Minnesota

A Before and After for the website! Visit the updated site here.

Overview

Goals: Brick Oven Bakery brought me on to improve their website in November 2020. I launched the site on May 26, 2021.

Challenge:

1. Incorporate E-Commerce capability to the site

2. Add mobile-friendly access and functionality

3. Allow for easy editing in the future

Process:

  • Mobile-friendly improvement #1: allow for users to click on the phone number to dial, as opposed to copying the number from the website and pasting it into their phone application.
  • Mobile-friendly improvement #2: “Scrolly” site, to allow for a continuous scroll through each section of the website. The menu items would not direct the user to new pages (prompting load time errors, etc.), rather the menu items would direct the user to a different location on the long scrolling home page.
  • I also wanted to make sure that the theme of the new site incorporated similar features as the old site, including colors and a main featured photo when the user first sees the page.

Output:

The current updated design now uses ShopKeep (the same software as the point of sale system) to allow for easy editing in the future: the bakery can update their hours as well as other aspects of the site (specials, about page, etc.) using this new website host. The layout that exists now works for mobile and web the best.

In the first two weeks post-launch (from May 26, 2021 to June 14, 2021), Brick Oven Bakery had over 55 orders on their online site, yielding over $1460 in additional sales. This number is expected to increase as more customers find out about the online store and as in-person events become more frequent (many of the customers that called beforehand to place an order were those who were placing a large order for an event).
